Geoscience Experts you can rely on

RESPEC’s highly experienced geothermal geologists offer exploration and geoscience consulting services tailored to the needs of individual clients—whether they are a greenfield prospect, reaching into a new part of an existing field, or targeting wells in an established field. Our services include exploration planning, geological and conceptual modeling, exploration activities, field supervision, data analysis, pressure/temperature logging, and well testing.

RESPEC assists with the initial site investigation, including existing documentation and data review, data mining, and geologic mapping. We also help prepare preliminary site assessment reports and recommendations for initial-stage development activities.

RESPEC partners with the specialists needed to complete each project efficiently with the right expert for the project. To supplement our in-house expertise, as needed, we have partner relationships with many subject matter experts, such as specialist geophysicists , geochemists, modelers, or geologists.

Project Spotlight

Estevan, SK, Canada

In the Williston Basin, RESPEC is helping Deep Earth Energy Production Corp. tap the sedimentary heat from basal aquifers 3,500 meters below the surface.

Project Details

Salton Sea, CA, U.S.

Completed in 2012, this power plant marked the first new development in California's Salton Sea geothermal field in nearly 20 years.

Project Details

Ngatamariki, New Zealand

RESPEC engineers led exploration and drill design, ultimately proving the economic viability of what is currently the largest binary power plant in the world.

Project Details

Vernal, UT, U.S.

As Toronto looks to its waterfront to develop vibrant new neighborhoods, RESPEC is looking underground to explore geothermal's potential in an urban setting.

Preliminary Studies

RESPEC integrates all available information into conceptual models to target further exploration or prove resource potential for direct-use and power-generating applications. Geologic data include maps of the study area, cross sections, regional and local structures, fault kinematics, and alteration mineralogy. Geophysical surveys and interpretation include magnetics, gravity, magnetotellurics, and passive microseismic monitoring. In systems within sedimentary basins, oil and gas well data are used to characterize the target reservoirs and temperatures.

Feasibility Studies

After drilling exploration wells the RESPEC team will develop a “bankable” feasibility study and financial analysis to support a commercial decision. The team will develop a conceptual design of wells, resource production and power generation facilities, and transmission lines, and estimate capital and operating/maintenance budgets. Terms of a power sales agreement can be estimated to model the key commercial indicators such as return on investment, net present value, and payback.

Due Diligence

RESPEC has participated in due diligence reviews for potential investors at all stages of the geothermal process. We have also completed due diligence analysis as a third party for potential private investors or financial institutions. Due diligence reviews include technical resource modeling and economic analysis. Typical deliverables include a data gap analysis, data and modeling quality control, and review of economic assumptions and development potential and options. Final reporting allows the developer to check internal work in preparation for a project development stage gate decision or final investment decision.
